Dwight Howard

5 February 2010

Not sure if many of you have noticed recently, but Dwight Howard has made an concerted effort to broaden his impact on the game, namely on the offensive end. He noted the other day in his blog about how he developed his left hand which reiniforces the idea that he wants to become an all-around player, not hindered by any glaring weakness.

As long as the Orlando Magic has a healthy Dwight Howard, they will always win a lot of regular season games. But unless they can have their entire core playing together and playing well, they have little chance as repeating as the Eastern Conference champs.

Yes, Dwight Howard doesn't have a ton of post moves, but he's only 23 years old.  HE'S GOING TO GET BETTER.  He's already the best rebounder and shot blocker on the planet, and he can

to dupicate his November performance against the Magic all the while hoping that Hedo Turkoglu and Dwight Howard do not.

Turkoglu put up 35 points on the 10th of November, Howard, battling the flu, put up 29 and added 19 rebounds.  Rashard Lewis, however, struggled this night having only shot 3 of 11 and missing all 5 of his three point attempts and yet it will be Lewis looking to have the most dominant performance of the night having already tallied 82 points this month.

tern Conference, especially with Mickael Pietrus sidelined for another several weeks.

Once again, Dwight Howard proved dominant during Friday's victory over the Thunder with 21 points, 23 rebounds, and 6 blocks, however, the remainder of the roster was, seemingly, playing down for the struggling Oklahoma City.  Turkoglu shot just 5-17, Rashard Lewis was only a couple of percentage points better shooting 5-15, and Redick, who had limited playing time, contributed just 8 points.  Nelson put up decent numbers, a welcome showing for Orlando fans, shooting 60% and nailing all 3 of his three point attempts.  And the Magic bench, lead by Bogans, totaled 30.

r a subpar performance against the Celtics to defeat the Timberwolves 100-89 Wednesday night.  Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu combined for 68 points and Orlando, as a whole, shot well, knocking down 57% of their field goals.

Rashard Lewis tallied 30 points while Dwight Howard grabbed 15 boards and had 4 blocks, yet it was the Celtics who left Monday victorious.  And while Boston's ability is certainly not to be taken lightly, it was the Magic that defeated themselves having only hit 42% of their field goals and shooting a mere 19% from behind the arc; the Magic's free throw shooting was also lackluster, having missed a total of ten.

day was special to Anthony Johnson, who put up his best numbers of the year with 16 points, it was Dwight Howard who would lay claim to the Magic's victory as his own.  Howard, who had more rebounds than the rest of the Magic combined with 21, put up an amazing 32 points, outshining Granger by 5.

Add on to this the fact that the Magic have 5 players averaging over 10 points per game, including Dwight Howard's 21.2 and Rashard Lewis' 17.9.

And while the names of Howard, Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu are certain to grab headlines, it is perhaps the play of J.J. Redick that has been the most impressive statistic of the Magic as of late.  During the Magic's current win streak, Redick has totaled 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal during 69 minutes of playing time.  The emergence of the former Duke star has been a much anticipated moment as Redick has averaged less than 13 minutes per game in his 3 year NBA career, hopefully we will continue to see impressive numbers from this kid which will encourage his growing court time.
