All-Star Game 2010 H.O.R.S.E Competition Lineup Travesty posted on 02/09/2010
So the lineup has been set for the 2nd All-Star H.O.R.S.E competition with Kevin Durant defending his title against Omri Casppi of the Kings and 1st time All-Star Rajon Rondo from the Celtics. I don't get it.
Aside from Durant's ridiculous shot-making ability what about these contestants scream HORSE champion? Casspi's marketable, First Israelian-born NBA player, I get that. Rondo, well he has his headband. Half of the game of HORSE is about trashtalking, one-upmanship and some creativity and while I wouldn't question any of these players' passion for the game, I'm not feeling it. Rondo certainly has that capacity after a tussle with cp3 earlier in the season, but he needs to play off of others in order for this to be entertaining or even watchable.
I would propose a field along the lines of Monta Ellis(whose recent shenanigans can be seen here, here, or here), Baron Davis(because of his good-natured trashtalking), and Steve Nash(whose creativity is unparalleled). I realize they're all point guards, but I think while the long, athletic forwards and centers are having their fun in the dunk contest, the smaller guards of the nba get the pathetic All-Star skills challenge. Seriously, I'm sure the commercials ran during that will be infinitely more entertaining.

Dwight Howard - Expanding his game posted on 02/05/2010
Not sure if many of you have noticed recently, but Dwight Howard has made an concerted effort to broaden his impact on the game, namely on the offensive end. He noted the other day in his blog about how he developed his left hand which reiniforces the idea that he wants to become an all-around player, not hindered by any glaring weakness.
I do not live in the Orlando area so I'm not fortunate enough to watch his game on a regular basis, but in the few that I have seen he has taken a few jumpshots in an attempt to incorporate it into his game. He's stated that he can make them easily in practice, but he realizes that he has got to make them reliabily enough at a game's pace. It seems that he's starting off easy with a Duncan-esque bank shot from about 12 feet out. I know some of you might cringe seeing Dwight's awkward stroke, but he's actually made a few(and missed horribly on others). Of course he'll need to make more than a few to convince others, and himself, that his mid-range game is a legitimate threat I'm encouraged by his progress. Although practicing his jumpshot hasn't translated to an improved FT%(59.6% vs. 60% for career), I think it's admirable that he's trying to prove his doubters wrong.
